Next Session: Saturday, April 1
First on the agenda -- SNACK. We need takers for the last few weeks of school, including this weekend. Since no one signed up after the request last week, I've gone ahead and signed you up if you brought fewer than 3 times during the year. Please check the list and change dates if you need to. Second, thanks to everyone who already signed up to bring something for the upcoming HS seder. We still need someone to bring a shank bone, and some kind of present for the winner of the finder of the Afikomen. Dafna would prefer a bag of kosher candies to be shared with all the kids. Anyone live near a kosher store? We also need someone to bring a seder plate. Please sign up here.
Below is a summary from the the last session of Hebrew School:
Introduction/Ma'agal and Kita Aleph (Dafna):
We started Ma'agal by hearing the Mitzvah candle story of Theo L. We then went through the names of Pesach we learned last week and the Bircha de Alma, blessing of the food. We also learned the Hebrew names of the plagues and played a game with the words.
In Kita Aleph: During the first lesson we heard the story of Moshe and the ten plagues. We started the second lesson by looking at the seder plate and explaining the meaning of each item., and we talked about the meaning of Kadesh Rechatz Carpas and Yachatz from the Seder. We then played a game to understand what we can and cannot eat during Passover. After that we heard a story about old Egypt by Heysle and played another game with the different symbols of the holiday
Kita Beit (Shaya):
After the Ma'agal we talked about the ways in which we celebrate Pesach. We used the Hagadah to learn new prayers and songs and learn the order of the seder. (We mainly focused on Magid Rachtza Motzi Matza). Then we play a card game in Hebrew (which we created last week) on the topic of the holiday. We used it to learn different signs and symbols of the holiday while practicing the reading in Hebrew.
Bar Mitzvah class (Mayaan):
Last week we discussed the subject of slavery in the modern world. The kids presented the research that they did at home and we decided that this would be the cause we would like to try to raise money for in our tzedaka project for the end of the year. For the second half the kids started working on their presentation of the essential steps of the Passover Seder. They decided to make posters and use them to make our short presentation in front of the congregation next week.
See you on Saturday.
