Next Session: Tu Bishvat Celebration, February 11
Below is a summary from the the last session of Hebrew School.
Introduction/Ma'agal and Kita Aleph (Dafna): We started Ma'agal talking about the mitzvah candle. We then talked a bit about Tu Bishvat and learned a new song about it.
In Kita Aleph we started the lesson talking about the meaning of the holiday; why we need to celebrate the trees, what can we do on a day-to-day basis to keep them and the earth safe and why this is important. We then explained the different kind of fruits and vegetables and how they are similar to the different kinds of people, and played a card game about fruits. We started the second lesson with making pots for plants out of old records (the idea was to celebrate the holiday by both planting seeds and recycling). We then went back to class and learned a new poem about a little apple.
Kita Beit (Shaya): After the Ma'agal we made pots for plants out of old records. We talked about the idea of recycling and our duty to protect our environment. We compared different personalities to different types of fruit as an introduction to Tu Bishvat seder. We also finished discussing text about the 10 Commandments. In the Hebrew part of our lesson we focused on reading, we learned new words, and briefly touched on some grammar.
Bar Mitzvah class (Mayaan): Last week we continued studying about Tu Bishvat and we started preparing our presentation about the Tu Bishvat seder that we'll take part in next lesson during the end of service. We learned about the symbolism of the different kinds of fruit compared to different kinds of people and different ways to approach faith and practice Judaism. Our presentation will be about fruit with a hard exterior and a soft, edible interior.
